Now nearing completion on site, this project was to upgrade a beautiful, yet dated characterful Victorian detached house to suit the modern lifestyle of this young family. Apart from general internal alterations, their brief required a modern ground floor extension into the depth of rear garden. Having worked through a variety of solutions, the choice was made for an open plan living /dining /kitchen and study space. With an expanse of glazing and patio doors opening out into the rear garden, the spatial quality of the new space is light and airy, accentuated further by the use of a continuous strip of roof lights on the junction of the old and new. A number of options were also considered with an external sail shade and internal blinds also to reduce glare.
